Beginning Oil Painting without Fear -- with Patti Gordon
Students will learn or review the very basics of oil painting with an emphasis on knowledge of supplies and their use; students will also learn artistic expression, while translating color into a landscape, and using oil paint and supplies, confidently—without fear.
No experience necessary! Ages 15 & up. Supply list will be provided, or students may purchase the necessary materials from the instructor ($38).
Course Objectives: Students will gain a knowledge of the following:
Color Theory: The color wheel (primary, secondary, tertiary, the importance of harmony of color), contrast and attributes, interaction between colors, mixing, and neutrals (black, white, gray, tans, and browns).
Paints and their characteristics: Transparency/opacity, hue, value (intensity/brightness and its importance), chroma (saturation/purity), color temperature (warm/cool), and how to grey down colors.
Students will learn about different paint mediums and substrates (canvas, canvas panels, Masonite, wood, and the importance of gesso).
Students will gain knowledge of brushes and tools (palette knife, paint eraser) and tips on how to use them, as well as the different types of brushes and their names.
Students will learn how to paint a landscape mountain scene of the Absarokee/Beartooth mountain region.
Valuable door prizes will be given during small breaks in class!
